Dear friends, we would like to remin you the event Calici sotto le stelle at Fessina, on August 10th: Storytellers in the vineyards and wine tasting of our Nerelli in the old bottaia (wood barrel room).

Me and Federico Curtaz will welcome the oenoturists at Tenuta di Fessina in the San Lorenzo' s night.

"Wine production

In 2007 the province of Catania produced 180,000 hl of wine, among which 17,106 (9,5%) Dop, 18,175 (10,1%) Igp and 80,4% varietl wines. The yield is 56,7 hl/hectar. La production of Dop Etna in 2007 was 16,600 hl with a lower wine yield (37,6 hl/hectare). Wineries in the province of Catania are 115, 16,9% of Sicily's production. The bottles produced are 9.1 millions, among which 7.8 millions in the 22 in the Etna region. Almost half of them (49,1%) are very small, with a maximum production of 10,000 bottles. (…)

Conclusions

With the exclusion of the Etna, in the rest of the province the production is not well known. (…) If we compare the low yield of the Etna region (37.6) with the average of Veneto (114.3 hl/hectare), we realize that in order to gain the same, the Etnean wine producers should sell their wines at prices three times superior of North Italian wineries, and this is possible only if we stree on quality wines".
