Attualmente, il 50 % della’intera produzione di Tenuta di Fessina è diretto all’export. Mercati mondiali emergenti, oltre a mercati internazionali storici quali l’America, dove l’enogastronomia siciliana ha sempre riscontrato ottimi successi, guardano alla Sicilia, e all’Etna in particolare, con un’attenzione sensibile. Affascina la storia, del territorio e delle persone, che emerge dal calice. Della “montagna di fuoco” ammalia l’ambivalenza, il calore e il nitore, di queste terre, immediatamente percepibili nel bicchiere. Il Principe Fabrizio del Gattopardo racconta la Sicilia come la terra dei forti contrasti: l’Etna, in particolare, sembra interpretare questo paradigma all’ennesima potenza. Fuor di misura nel paesaggio, sia nell’inferno attorno a Randazzo, ai piedi dello spaventoso vulcano prodigo di terremoti, piogge di fuoco e colate laviche, sia nella bellezza della baia di Taormina, a poca distanza dalla vetta, altrettanto foriera di ricchezza; fuor di misura nella capacità degli Etnei di convivere intimamente con un ambiente apparentemente ostile e difficile come la Muntagna, senza sentire l’esigenza di dominarlo, ma di partecipare empaticamente alla vita del vulcano, con rispetto, ostinazione e fiducia nelle inesauribili risorse di questo territorio realmente straordinario. Il nostro cru di Nerello Mascalese è dedicato alla famiglia Musmeci. In particolar modo, al signor Musmeci, colui che per molti anni ha conservato “I’ Vigne di Fessina” con così tanto amore da permetterci di lavorare oggi viti di oltre ottant’ anni. E’ la storia di questa terra straordinaria, con i suoi paesaggi, i suoi colori, la sua civiltà, che si intreccia al destino delle persone. E a quello del vino che ne nasce. Solo quando si è capaci di “seguire l’ordine della natura, la via della natura, il tempo della natura, il disegno della natura” , ossia solo quando si è capaci di adeguarsi alla corrente dei fenomeni naturali, considerando l’uomo non come qualcosa di alieno ed opposto ad essi, ma un’integrale caratteristica del processo del mondo, si riesce a sciogliere la contraddizione uomo-vulcano. Un’identità, quella dell’Etna e della Sicilia, che è unica al mondo.

Il Musmeci, Etna DOC Rosso. Presently, fifty per cent of the entire production of Tenuta di Fessina is directed at exports. Emerging markets such as the Far East and East-Europe – as well as, obviously, historical international markets such as America where Sicilian Eno-gastronomy have enjoyed huge success – look with great interest to Sicily, and to Etna in particular. They are attracted by the history, of the region and of the people, which emerges from the chalice. The ambivalence of the ‘mountain of fire’ the mix of heat and sharpness of these lands are immediately recognisable in the glass. In the story of “Gattopardo” (a famous novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa that chronicles the changes in Sicilian life and society during the Risorgimento), Prince Fabrizio describes Sicily as a land of strong contrasts: Etna, in particular, appears to represent this paradigm to the n’th degree. “Outlandish” in its landscape, both in the fire around Randazzo, at the foot of the frightening Volcano producing earth tremors, and the raining fire and boiling lava, both in the beauty of the Bay of Taormina, a short distance from the top, just as much a harbinger of richness; “outlandish” in the ability of the people of Etna to live so closely with such an apparently hostile and difficult environment such as the ‘Muntagna’ (Mount Etna), without feeling the need to dominate it, but to participate in the life of the volcano, with respect and empathy, and to trust in the inexhaustible resources of this truly extraordinary environment. Our cru of Nerello Mascalese is dedicated to the Musmeci family. In particular, to Mr. Ignazio Musmeci, who for many years conserved the vineyards of Fessina with so much love to allow us today to work with vines aged over eighty years old. It is the history of this extraordinary land, with its landscapes, its colours, its civility, which entwines itself with the story of the people. And of the wine that grows there. Only when we are able to “follow the natural order, nature’s way, nature’s time, the design of nature”, or rather only when we are to adapt ourselves to the flow of natural phenomena, considering Man not as something alien and opposed to it, but as an integral feature of the process of the world, is it possible to unravel the man-volcano contradiction. An identity, that of Etna and of Sicily, that is unique in the world.
